Sports & Athletics: Benefits to Our Society
Engaging in sports and athletics is not confined to a specific gender or age group. Women are nowadays as much involved as men, and so are kids and adults. Going a few blocks in your neighborhood you are sure to find people engaging themselves in a basketball or football game among other types of sports. Similarly they have become part of the school curriculum, from elementary school to the university. The following looks at their importance in the society.
These sports and athletics have been there since the days of our forefathers, maybe just some variations on the types that were then and these that are now. Their might just be some little difference on how things were done during that time, and what they are currently. Spectators would gather around to watch different teams or even individuals battle it out to emerge victorious in their specific games. The winner may not necessarily get a reward for it but often the feeling of accomplishment and being unbeaten would be enough.
In today’s society the relevance of sports and athletics is evidently more than it was back then. The reasoning is rather obvious, there is a big difference in the society today and what it was then. All it needs is for one to be idle enough, lacking something to do and would easily find themselves finding solace in drugs and narcotics. This is usually brought about by idleness and association with the wrong influence. By involving youths in some kind of sports and athletics it keeps them engaged from time to time, minimizing or even eliminating this susceptibility.
Another role that sports and athletics play in the society plays is in keeping us healthy and fit. You may be playing soccer or basketball as a way of having fun with friends but unknowingly be exercising and keeping fit. There is no doubt the food we eat nowadays and the lifestyle in general is not healthy. The result can be obesity and other associated health complications. A few minutes of running, jumping, throwing or walking are enough to ensure one sweats out all the unhealthy junk they might have consumed.
Another importance of sports and athletics is on the possibility of getting an income from them. Gone are the days where an education or a white collar job was the way to a prosperous life. They therefore provide a society with a means of getting an income, rather than depending on a white collar job or an education alone.
The importance of sports and athletics in today’s society should never be overlooked. Many of the problems that are a thorn to today’s society can actually be solved if the youth, women and men engage in sports activities from time to time.
